A most beautiful
ceremony I officiated included a unique, Native American prayer, invoking the Great Spirit of the Earth and asking for blessings for the marriage. Further more, the release of butterflies was very nice, though I hear it can get expensive... This is a nice alternative to more traditional wedding activities such as the unity candle or the unity sands.
Hello and Welcome! Thank you for coming!
We gathered together here in the presence of God, friends and family to celebrate the love which Bride and Groom have for each other, to give social recognition to their decision to commit their lives and accept each other completely, to learn how to help and understand each other, to build a family, and together, to travel through life.
If any of you has anything to say that might change their minds… they… don’t want to hear it J However, they do want to hear from you that you are their village, that you will always be their friends, and will always support and encourage them as they discover the commitment and dedication needed to make marriage work. And that is why you are here today, and they hope you will be here every day to share from your wisdom, to share what you learned from your relationships and your life.
Giving away of the bride: Mom & Dad of bride
Who gives this woman to be married to this man? (Parents: “We do”)
Before we go to vows, we’ll pray to the Great Spirit, in the traditional, Native American way:
“God in heaven above please protect the ones we love.
We honor all you created as we pledge our hearts and lives together.
We honor mother Earth and ask
for our marriage to be abundant and grow stronger through the seasons;
We honor fire and ask
that our union be warm and glowing with love in our hearts;
We honor wind and ask
That we sail through life safe and calm as in our father’s arms;
We honor water to clean and soothe
our relationship that it may never thirsts for love;
with all the forces of the universe you have created,
we pray for harmony and true happiness
as we forever grow young together.
Amen”
May we have the rings please?
(Couple will hold rings together for blessing. Rev. places his hand over the rings and recites blessing)
May these rings be blessed as a symbol of this union. May these two people find the love in each other that all people long for. May they always return to each other and in their togetherness may they establish a home in which many will find a friend.
Groom as you place this ring on Bride‘s hand, please repeat after me: I take you Bride, to be my wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and, in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part.
Bride as you place this ring on Groom‘s hand, please repeat after me: I take you Groom to be my wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and, in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part.
Butterfly Legend Reading & Release: users pass out the butterflies to participants after
Rev. says: We will now partake in the Native American Legend of the butterfly.
According to this Legend, if anyone desires a wish to come true they must first capture a butterfly and whisper that wish to it. Since a butterfly can make no sound, the butterfly can not reveal the wish to anyone but the Great Spirit who hears and sees all.
Butterflies are released.
Groom and Bride, I now pronounce you husband and wife! Groom you may kiss your bride!
Couple holds hands and face audience
Ladies and gentlemen, I am honored to introduce to you Mr. & Mrs. Groom
Recessional: couple will exit down bride’s isle. Groomsmen and bridesmaids will come to the center facing audience, link arms and follow couple out.
Thank you all for coming. The wedding party Receiving Line will be held at the Reception Hall.
